We had a fantastic five-day, two-person trip with McKenzie's Trails West in early September. Highly recommended even if you don't have much experience with horses. Horses were super, food was hearty, guides were knowledgeable and fun. I really appreciated their flexibility to plan a trip around our needs and preferences (e.g., splitting the first day into two so that we weren't too saddle sore!) and open communication during the trip (e.g., the length of rides, what we would like to see, any modifications to food, warmth, etc.). This part of western Alberta has stunning scenery and it's great to travel through on horseback. Don't underestimate mountain weather, but do take the leap and contact them to discuss everything from a 1-hr trail ride to a 12-day trip. We will be back!

We had the pleasure of taking a ride here this week. We were met by Shelly with a warm smile and genuine demeanor. We then took a ride with Gage, who was friendly, knowledgeable, and just a good fella. The horses are beautiful and happy, Mr. Big and Fluffy (fantastic names by the way). I've been to lots of trail riding places and this is literally one of the best I have been to. The horses were trained excellently. This is the best place for beginner riders. I don't know when I will be back, but I surely will.

One of the best experiences we have done! Friendly staff and beautiful well behaved horses, and stunning views! We did the 4hr half day trail ride and it was amazing. We were lucky enough to get the ride to our selves with our friendly guide Gage (all the best for your wedding).

The 6 day pack trip was AMAZING! A great way to spend time together as a couple, no phones, no internet and lots of wilderness! The horses were calm and tough and the guides were dependable and super helpful. I would HIGHLY recommend Mackenzie Trails West for an authentic cowboy/ explorer experience.

Just a city girl who wanted to ride a horse and what an amazing experience. This was my first time riding a horse and these folks made my experience all I had hoped it to be. I figured I'd go all in and do the 4 hour trail ride which gave the full experience. Amazing mountain views and a nice little creek with to have lunch. The horse I was given was Navaho and she sensed my curiosities and she showed me a few things a horse can do! So much fun. Parker was our guide and he was very helpful and made me feel safe. I will definitely be coming back here in the future. Thank you folks for my experience.

Anneke and Kenzie went above and beyond to ensure we were full to our eyeballs, comfortable and equipped for each day. Both experienced horse women, they gave us tips and answered all our questions and had some hilarious anecdotes from the outfit to keep us entertained.
Logan and Lane’s family ties and respect of the land, horses and outfit is evident in their passion, enthusiasm and pride when guiding us through. Both charismatic and intelligent cowboys, they welcomed the opportunity to impart knowledge and encourage participation in all aspects of the trip.
Kate and Maddy were my points of contact for logistics and questions (I had lots of them lol) they were both super friendly and excited to have us there, they took all questions seriously no matter how trivial.

“I’ve been wanting to visit McKenzie’s for quite a while, but it never materialized. Finally my wife, 5mth son and dogs made it up for a short getaway. We stayed in their comfort camping (canvas wall tents on platforms). It was fantastic, the space was lovely and the recreation opportunities in the area are awesome.
We’re hoping to return for another getaway before the summer is over, and hopefully get on some of their horses as well. We’ll certainly be back to stay in their comfort camping again, and will highly recommend it to friends. Robert M

I had an awesome 3 hours trail ride. The Trail and the view was absolutely incredible. My horse was very strong and I felt comfortable. The lunch I got was very delicious. I definitely recommend McKenzies ranch!

A must do trail ride! Horses were all amazing and so kind to all riders. The staff were the best! Fun, kind, caring and loved to chat and share their stories! 3 hr tour was so worth it! Will be coming back to ride again!

Love this place. Beautiful tents and the staff is wonderful. Im glad there is an electic fence around the tent. We found cougar prints outside our tent in the morning but we were perfectly safe. Going back for Labour Day weekend!

We stayed at McKenzie’s Trails West as Airbnb guests in one of the tents – and what an experience! A perfect mix of luxury and true Canadian outdoor adventure. The tent was super cozy, with a comfortable bed, thick warm blankets, and a wood-burning stove that gave us a real romantic feeling.
On the first night, the stove worked perfectly. On the second night, we had some trouble – it filled the tent with smoke, possibly because the flap inside the pipe needs maintenance. Still, we absolutely loved the stay. The campfire spot outside was awesome, with firewood ready to use. Bathrooms and showers were clean, and all the staff were very kind and welcoming!
The highlight for us was the horseback ride. Our guide Tjasmin, originally from Australia, was amazing! I rode Hudson, and we really clicked. The trail was stunning and peaceful, with amazing views and that real cowboy feeling. Total cowboy vibes – exactly what us “German krauts” were looking for!
Also, we booked a helicopter tour across the road with Rockies Heli Canada – absolutely worth it and easy to combine with a stay here!

A fantastic experience that almost makes me want to move back to Alberta. Stunning views, gentle and well trained horses, as well as kind and genuine guides (thank you Gauge and Parker!). I haven’t been on an horse for over 15 years and I felt very comfortable and confident on my horse Cactus. Our three hour ride was relaxing and included a tasty lunch overlooking the canyon. I would absolutely ride with MTW again and consider going for a longer multi-day trek.

Went for an hour long ride, Our guide, Lane, was amazing, great experience, the horses are well trained, friendly and made me so comfortable for being a beginner rider. the scenery is spectacular. definitely a must if in the area.

We went on the 3 hour canyon ride. Loved everything: welcoming hosts, lovely responsive and sure footed horses, great trail through beautiful forest and along the canyon. Was my second time riding with McKenzies and I will be back for sure!

So much fun for my two boys 11 and 12 who have never been horseback riding. The staff were kind and amazing. The trail we rode was beautiful! Would go again.
The horses, the cowboys, the view...there is nothing bad about this experience. I would highly recommend it. Worth every dollar.
